JUNE 2009 NEXT GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, JUNE 2, 7:30 P.M., AT THE VIRGINIA STREET THEATER. At the last meeting, elections were held and the following persons elected: Patti Stacy, President; Jim Goss, Vice Pres.; Carol Bignell, Secretary; Leslie Smith, Treasurer. The five at-large board members elected were Lee Cook, Hugh Taylor, Harvey Drury, Michele Massey, and Edie Stevens. All these fine people need, and deserve, our faithful support. Mark your calendar and attend the meetings. IT'S IMPORTANT. And afterward, there's always goodies in the lobby! Dont forget we do NOT have membership meetings in July or August. Meetings will resume in September. VERY CURRENT MATTERS: Auditions for the youth production will be held May 29 at 1 and 6 p.m. and again on MAY 30 at 1 p.m. Ask all your young friends and relatives to show up! Michael Christopher, 623-1924, is the director. Getting the young people involved always means attendance by parents, grandparents, other relatives, and friends. The show is scheduled for performances on Aug. 7, 8, 9. Carol Dishman is helping out the local UFO Committee by casting and directing a suitable radio play, titled "Top Secret: Majic," written by Marty Martin. Casting was scheduled on MAY 27 and 28, 7 p.m., at RCLT. She needed 14 men and three women, so she may not be fully cast by the time Footlights is distributed. Feel free to contact her at 622-6190 or 910-8311. There will be two performances; both at Pearson Auditorium, July 5, 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Rehearsals will be minimal. On Sat., MAY 30, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., an actors' lab is being offered by a couple of "Pro's," known as "The Natural Act." It will be an eight-hour workshop, costing $100 per person, location to be announced. If you're interested, phone (505) 907-3447, 286-4272, or (713) 201-1245. "OFF BROADWAY - WAY OFF!" will be the theme of this year's Curtains Rising. Pam Teeple and Cheryll Drury, Co-Chairs, and the Curtains Rising Committee opted for this theme, and will gather some acts for an interesting variety show. This splashy annual event is scheduled for the Elk's Lodge, on Aug. 29. Promised is an entertaining evening with good food and fun. All the details will be out soon. Be sure to save the date for this event! "WAIT UNTIL DARK," the production now in rehearsal, directed by Alethea Hartwell with assistance by Lynetta Bozeman, is going well. This fascinating play will feature some of our outstanding performers, and is sure to be a winner. TALK IT UP. Let's do all we can to fill the house for each performance! Evening shows are set for June 19, 20, 26, 27 at 7:30 p.m. Make your reservations by phoning 622-1982. Sunday matinees are scheduled for June 21 and 28, at 2 p.m., and no reservations are needed. If you can help in the lobby for this show, let Louise Montague, Lobby Chair, (840-8024) know! We need your help. Any of you men who can help with security during performances are encouraged to volunteer for "walk the parking lot" duty. PLAYS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON are still being read, studied, and decided upon. Directors have been busy, and several fine plays are being considered. Hopefully, the full season of plays will be ready soon. "TOO MANY HUSBANDS," the radio play done for the recent Lend-a-Hand affair at Anderson Museum, was well received by the audience. It brought a nice donation of $200 to RCLT. Thanks to all who participated, and helped in any way.

JULY 2009
REMEMBER: During the months of July and August, there will be no general membership meetings. Next such meeting is scheduled for Sept. 1. However, the summer is an active time for RCLT. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CAST AND CREW OF "WAIT UNTIL DARK." It was a fine show and had some pretty nice crowds. Everyone involved worked hard to make it an outstanding production, and all who saw it were highly appreciative and complimentary! Special thanks to Alethea Hartwell, Director, and her Assistant, Lynetta Bozeman. NEXT ON OUR STAGE will be the summer youth production, directed by Michael Christopher. He had outstanding turnouts for auditions and is cast. Performance dates are Aug. 7, 8, and 9. Be sure to support our youth as they perform. COMING UP SHORTLY is the radio type play that RCLT members, and a few others, will be performing in conjunction with the UFO Festival. The City is the actual sponsor, but they asked for our support, and got it! It is a delightful play by Marty Martin, and directed by our Carol Dishman, titled "Top Secret: Majic." The cast includes Will Cass, Lawrence Longo, Lee Cook, Noel Sivertson, Ross Tenneson, Gabe Moore, Patti Stacy, Brian Michaelez, Vonnie Goss, Leslie Smith, Bob Bergmark, Mike Smith, Clyde McKee, Hugh Taylor, Jim Goss, Tim McNeil, Isaac Bertin, Jim Dishman, Ty Whatley, Jessie Fugate, and Frank Sleeper. Performances are set for NMMI's Pearson Auditorium at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on July 5. No word yet on admission fees. Please check the local paper, or log onto www.ufofestivalroswell.com. - be sure to attend. The new theater has been utilized for rehearsals of this large cast, and we are very grateful to have it available. CURTAINS RISING IS NEARING! The theme is "OFF BROADWAY -- 'WAY OFF. It promises to be a fun variety show with singers, dancers, and skits, with Lee Cook serving as M.C. Be sure to mark your calendar. It's Aug. 29, 5:30 p.m., at the Elks Lodge. There will be good food and some great door prizes, along with enjoyable entertainment. Admission is $25 per person, PAYABLE IN ADVANCE ONLY, so watch the mail for the information sheet and reservation form. If yours seems to be late, you may contact one of the committee members; Cheryll Drury, Patti Stacy, Vonnie Goss, Carol Dishman, and Edie Stevens (Edie may be vacationing!). It promises to be a very enjoyable evening. This annual event kicks off the upcoming new season of entertainment for RCLT, and directors will acquaint you with what's on tap. A BOARD OF ADVISORS, CONSISTING PROMINENT COMMUNITY LEADERS is being formed. Earl Morris and his committee have been working hard on this matter. He has mailed 64 invitations, with nineteen returned so far; 8 Yes's, 11 No's. We are hoping that the future will bring many more Yes responses. OUR THANKS to Matt Curry for getting the green room swamp cooler up and running. All casts are very grateful. Without the faithful assistance of our members, we would lack many important elements. SECURITY: We need to have some of you to help with security. It simply involves a male who is willing to patrol the parking lot when shows are in performance. We don't need a policeman, just a dedicated person to show his presence and discourage anyone who might be thinking of breaking into a vehicle. If you are willing to help, please see Louise Montague, Lobby Chair, and let her know. It's an important service for performers and patrons. |
AUGUST 2009

CONGRATULATIONS to all who were involved in "Top Secret: Majic," the radio-type play which RCLT provided at Pearson Auditorium on July 5. The author, a producer, and others attended and were very pleased with those who worked hard to have a good production. A low bow to everyone involved, and especially to Carol Dishman, who valiantly directed the show. A NEW RCLT BROCHURE is out, listing the plays for the 2009-2010 season. Now all directors are asked to submit plays to be considered for the 2010-2011 season. If a director would like a specific play ordered for reading and review, please notify Louise at 575-840-8024, who can take care of the request. Don't put it off! SEPTEMBER 2009
THE FIRST MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF THE NEW SEASON IS SET FOR SEPT. 1, 7:30 p.m., at the Virginia Street theater. Be sure to mark your calendar and attend. Let's start everything off on a positive note, and it takes EVERYONE to do that! And, after the meeting, there's always goodies and chatting in the lobby. ANNUAL YOUTH PRODUCTION BROUGHT SOME GOOD AUDIENCES TO THE THEATER, AND THE YOUTH HAD A REAL BLAST! Much of the future of RCLT will be in their hands, so we need to train and support them as time goes by. Special thanks to Michael Christopher, his cast and crew, who worked so diligently to get the two clever one-acts on the boards. CURTAINS RISING is only a couple of days away as we "go to press." It is our big annual kickoff affair where we announce what shows are upcoming, and who's directing. More about what happened will appear in next month's edition of FOOTLIGHTS. "MOON OVER BUFFALO," a delightful adult comedy directed by Frank Schlatter, is now in rehearsal, with a fine cast filling the roles. The cast members are Will Cass, Carole Schlatter, Lynetta Bozeman, Dominic Batista, Michael McCarty, Pat Davidson, John Popham, and Rebecca Frederick. Kate Davis has the role of producer; Kate Cox is the costumer. Sound and lights operator is Carol Dishman; Donna Paul is makeup mistress; Beth Rhodes is assisting with the stage crew. Evening performances are scheduled for Sep. 11, 12, 18, and 19, at 7:30 p.m. Reservations should be made by phoning 622-1982. Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. are set for Sep. 13, and 20. Don't miss this play about show people! AUDITIONS FOR THE NEXT PLAY, "KISS OR MAKE UP," are set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 15 at the Virginia street theater. Lynetta Bozeman will direct this Jack Sharkey comedy, which requires four men and three women in the cast. Anyone who has ever had ambitions to be on the stage is encouraged to attend the auditions. Prospective members of the crew should also attend auditions. Get involved! THE FIRST MEETING OF THE RCLT ADVISORY COMMITTEE WAS RECENTLY HELD. This committee will be lending its advice and counsel to RCLT with regard to various operational matters. Chaired by Earl Morris, with assistance from our President and Vice President (Patti Stacy and Jim Goss), it is composed of LaNelle Witt, Jill Marcelli, Karen Moyle, Ed David, Charles Fischer, Kim Elliott, Thomas Hiatt, Judy Stubbs, Jeff Smith, and Art Moyle. We all appreciate the willingness of these influential people to lend heir knowledge and expertise to us as we seek to refurbish and occupy our "new" theater building, and move forward with RCLT. HELP NEEDED for security during performances, and for lobby personnel. Check in with Louise Montague, Ph. 840-8024, if you can assist in either role. Yes, there is always help needed that does not require memorizing lines. A FUNDRAISER FOR NEW THEATER: During the latter part of September, and all of October, RCLT will be conducting a campaign to seek donors to sponsor naming rights for various components of the new theater. These will range from $150,000 to name the theater, "The ____________________ Performing Arts Center" (or Theater), to $5,000 for naming the office. See the Sept. 23rd issue of Roswell Daily Record for a complete list of components. We need to raise at least $200,000 of the $500,000 goal to begin renovations. That is the amount necessary to make minimum improvements to obtain a "Certificate of Occupancy." |
OCTOBER 2009
THE NEXT MEMBERSHIP MEETING WILL BE HELD ON OCT. 6, 7:30 P.M., AT THE VIRGINIA STREET THEATER. There are lots of things on the agenda, many important items to be discussed, and every member should be present. Please make a note on your calendar and be there! Following the meeting, there are goodies and chatting in the lobby. CURTAIN'S RISING was a fun and successful event. Low bows to Cheryll Drury and all her committee. Carol and Jim Dishman, with lots of help from Harvey Drury and others, put up an effective set, and Carol did great work on the decor and door prizes; Jim Bignell managed the lights and sound; Vonnie found and directed two skits; Monica DesJardins, single-handedly, obtained donated funds; Patti handled programs and other printing, etc. Edie provided advice and assistance, as did others. Lee Cook was an outstanding MC, and all the performers were great. To all, many thanks for a great evening, which almost 200 attended, and which added more than $1,000 to our building fund. Special recognition to Bob Bergmark, Elks' Lodge member, and one of ours, who was able to get the room fee waived. To EVERYONE who helped with advertising, or any other way, a big THANK YOU! It's amazing what can be done when we all pitch in. IN REHEARSAL NOW is the delightful comedy, "Kiss or Make Up," directed by Lynetta Bozeman, with Michele Massey serving as her Assistant. Others in the cast are Louise Montague, Lee Cook, Patti Stacy, Curtis Folts, Ty Whatley, Leslie Smith and Phil Folts. Evening performances of the show will be at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, 7,13 and 14. Please make reservations by phoning 622-1982. Sunday matinees are set for 2 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 15; all shows at the Virginia Street theater. Adm.: Adults, $10; Full-time Students, $7. BIG THANKS TO THE ANONYMOUS DONOR OF $90,000, GIVEN TO ELIMINATE THE MORTGAGE ON THE NEW THEATER BUILDING. That donation stopped the monthly mortgage payment's drain on our funds. The big ad in the Roswell Daily Record listed theater areas for sponsorships. For example, you may sponsor a certain area, or room, (Green Room, Ladies Lounge, etc.), with sponsorships ranging from $5,000, to $25,000, or naming the theater for $150,000. If you wish to contribute, and name a certain area of the theater, please contact Earl Morris, 625-0658, or our president, Patti Stacy, 626-1724. We've already had a few folks who did participate, but we'd like to have others. You can be a real part of Roswell's history, by adding to the performing arts at RCLT. Talk it up, and encourage participation. Watch for the update in Saturday's paper, Oct. 3. RCLT PARTICIPATES IN ANOTHER COMMUNITY EVENT. On Sept. 26 and 27, Patti Stacy, Frank Sleeper, and Carol Dishman assisted members of the First United Methodist Church, and other volunteers, in a "Broadway to Carnegie Hall" musical concert at the Performing Arts Center. The event was a fund-raiser for a community chorus' trip to New York next year, where they will present an original musical production. Other members of RCLT performed at the concert, and helped out. The Church, and chorus members, were grateful for the assistance. We want to gain a reputation for community helpfulness. DO VISIT OUR WEB SITE! It is shown above, and is regularly updated, thanks to Carol Bignell. This is a single place to find out all the latest RCLT News. Don't miss it! HELP! If you can help in the lobby during the next show, or by walking security (guys only!), please contact Louise Montague, Lobby Chair, 840-8024.

NOVEMBER 2009 THE NEXT MEMBERSHIP MEETING WILL BE HELD ON NOV. 3, 7:30 P.M., AT THE VIRGINIA STREET THEATER. These days, every meeting is full of informational material about our plays, the "new" building, plans for the future, and many exciting upcoming events. Don't miss out on all this fascinating stuff! We need your input with regard to everything that is being planned. Mark your calendar, and be sure to attend. To cap off the evening, there're always goodies and chatter in the lobby! KISS OR MAKE UP, the upcoming production, is in its final rehearsals, and Lynetta Bozeman, Director, and all her cast and crew, have been working hard to make it an outstanding show. Now, it's up to rest of us to fill the theater with an appreciative audience for each performance. Will you help by being there, and inviting your friends, neighbors, co-workers, relatives, and everyone to join you? It's disheartening to work diligently on a show, then play to empty seats. All of us can help to fix that problem! This delightful comedy will have evening performances at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, 7, 13 and 14. If possible, make reservations by phoning 622-1982. Sunday matinees, at 2 p.m., are set for Nov. 8 and 15 - no reservations needed. In our troubled times, a few good laughs are needed. This show is sure to provide them! AUDITIONS ARE SCHEDULED FOR NOV. 11 AND 12, 7 P.M., for THE MONEY IN UNCLE GEORGE'S SUITCASE. This comedy, by Pat Cook, provides some insight into a dysfunctional family, and the uncle they come to visit for a prior reading of his will. Louise Montague is the director. The cast requires one man and two women who are 50+ years of age. In addition, needed are two males and two females, age 30-45, plus a young lady, 12-13 years. A stage manager is sought, as well as a sound/lights operator. Don't miss your chance to be in an outstanding family show, with a "G" rating. NOT ALL THE ANGELS ARE ON BROADWAY SUPPORTING THEIR SHOWS! We were indeed blessed when an angel provided RCLT with sufficient funds to retire the large mortgage on our new building. No longer does the monthly mortgage payment eat into our savings! We are now concentrating on obtaining additional funds through gifts, grants, or any other legitimate means, to renovate the "old Park Twin," and turn it into a first-class little theater building. We're talking about thousands of dollars, but it can happen, with many people providing their financial help, regardless of the amount, large or small. Several of our members have stepped up and donated good-sized amounts, and we are proud of each one. There are other citizens in the community who occasionally donate to worthwhile 501c(3)(non-profit, tax exempt) organizations, and we need to make contact with them. If you are personally acquainted with such a prospect, and are willing to visit with them and make a "pitch" for their assistance, please contact Hugh Taylor, (505) 238-1697, or Earl Morris, 625-0658. Remember, most folks want the advantage of the tax deductions from such a gift, but need to have the funds in place by the end of the current year. That means we must get busy NOW! SPECIAL EVENTS AHEAD FOR RCLT include a Christmas show of skits to be performed at Peachtree for a sizeable donation to the building fund. Vonnie Goss, directing. In February, a mystery audience participation play is scheduled at the Elks Lodge, with Edie Stevens directing. Again, it's a benefit for the building fund. Watch for more details later, and plan to be a participant.

This fundraiser for the building fund will be held Feb. 20, at the Elks, and will be an interactive show, with some audience participation. Needed for the cast are six men and four women, of various ages. There's an eccentric father, a spoiled, rich daughter, a weird nephew, a knife-wielding cook, a well-educated butler - and more. The dinner will include a NY steak, potato, vegetable, rolls, dessert, coffee or tea, all PLUS THE SHOW, at a price of $25 per admission. Attend auditions if you'd like to participate but, in any case, save the date and attend FOR SURE. HELP IS ALWAYS NEEDED IN THE LOBBY, or for walking security patrol. At every performance, these areas must be covered by some of our personnel. If you would like to be involved, please let Louise know, and you will be scheduled. If you have been trained on our cash register, you are eagerly sought, since not everyone has acquired that skill. Please help us in these needed areas. CHRISTMAS IS COMING, and each of you is wished the very happiest of holiday seasons. Remember that we are all striving to stay well, and particularly to avoid the various types of flu, so one more reminder to wash your hands often and thoroughly, and take good care of yourself by eating right, sleeping well, and staying happy. All contribute to your well being!
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! |

JANUARY 2010
THE NEXT MONTHLY MEETING WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, JAN. 5, 7:30 P.M., AT THE VIRGINIA STREET THEATER. Now is an appropriate time to take your new calendar for 2010, and leaf through it, marking the first Tuesday of each month as RCLT meeting date. That way you will be sure to have a reminder of this important event. We need every member to be present, and to provide ideas and assistance in all we plan for the upcoming year. Please take your responsibility seriously, and be present for every meeting. Oh, yes, after each one, there are goodies and chatter in the lobby! AN IMPORTANT VOTE will take place at the January meeting. As discussed at the November membership meeting, the fundraising chair was previously made a member of the board of directors until such time as the new building mortgage was paid off. The board therefore NOW moves that the fundraising chair remain on the board until RCLT raises enough funds to MOVE INTO the new building. This motion will be voted on by those members present at the meeting. "SKITS FOR SANTA," a program of humorous Christmas skits, provided some Yuletime cheer for about 50 people who attended it at Peachtree Village retirement community on Dec. 17. Some 14 members of RCLT put their hearts and souls, plus a lot of rehearsal time into it, and were pleased with the result. Making the seniors happy was a wonderful gift to them! Those who participated were Mike and Leslie Smith, Lee Cook, Michael Sweeney, Jim Goss, Bob Bergmark, Monica DesJardins, Patti Stacy, Michele Massey, Alice Wagoner, Susan Locke, Shirley Brown, Rebecca Frederick, and Vonnie Goss. AUDITIONS FOR THE "WHO-DUNNIT" MYSTERY PLAY will be held at the Elks Lodge (1720 N. Montana), on Jan. 4, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. The play is "Death of a Doornail," an interactive show. Six men and four women are needed for the cast, according to Edie Stevens, director of the production. The play will be performed in dinner theater format on Feb. 20, at the Elks Lodge, as a fundraiser for our "new" theater building. The menu includes a NY steak with all the trimmings, including dessert. The dinner AND the show are a "package deal," for the reasonable price of $25 per person. Check the Web site, or phone 622-1982, for any additional help in obtaining admission. It's a fun way to participate in theater, or to simply be a member of the audience. Plan now to attend! "THE MONEY IN UNCLE GEORGE'S SUITCASE," our upcoming production, is in a very busy rehearsal time, with things progressing well. Louise Montague is the director, and Michael Wayne Langston is the Assistant Director. This play is a family production, guaranteeing that no offensive language or action is involved, so invite all your friends to attend. It's a delightful comedy that will help to start your New Year off right, so please, mark your calendar right now. IN THE WINGS is our next regularly scheduled show of the season following "The Money in Uncle George's Suitcase." Of course, the funds do not come in large amounts, but every buck helps! Earl Morris reports that our own membership has stepped up to support the effort in admirable fashion. Latest to join this parade is Monica DesJardins, who has sponsored the Makeup Room at $5,000. So far, our members have donated $168,000, of which $90,000 went to pay off the mortgage, and $78,000 was provided for renovations. So far, the general public had donated only about $2,000, but we're hoping that will improve very soon! TALK IT UP! |
